GENDER DYSPHORIA
Gender identity refers to an individual’s identification as male, female, or a category other than male or female. Gender assignment refers to the initial assignment as male or female sex at birth. Gender dysphoria refers to discontent and distress experienced when there is incongruence between one's experienced/expressed gender, and one's assigned gender. Not all individuals will experience distress as a result of such incongruence. Persons with gender dysphoria wish to have the physical characteristics and/or to be regarded socially as a person of a different sex.
